The Basic Principles

The Homework Policy is student-oriented: It provides an appropriate amount and suitable homework for students. Due to this cause, our teachers design and distribute homework based on the following principles:

  1. There shall be no duplication of meaningless content, mechanical drilling, and homework which is non-conducive to learning.
  2. Homework shall connect and bond to the learning objectives which helps students consolidate and extend learning for academic purposes.
  3. Homework shall motivate students in learning and foster their high-order thinking, self-learning and creativity for broadening their horizons to prepare for their future.
  4. Homework is designed with different levels to suit different learning needs for students. For instance, different worksheets for both gifted or supported students.
  5. Through the implementation of reading lessons or schemes, students’ reading habits outside the classroom shall be developed in order to enrich their knowledge.

Parents' Role and Collaboration

Parental support plays an essential role in supporting and fostering student's learning. Therefore, we recommend parents to encourage children the following to provide the most opportunities in their learning:

  • Understand the important of homework, in which involves learning objectives and outcomes. Therefore by guiding students to do homework rather than doing homework for them would help them develop their responsible attitude.
  • Help children set a timeslot for homework in order to build a conducive learning environment. Specific means such as turning off TVs, reducing any forms of disturbance would help students develop a systematic habit for learning. Other means such as prioritizing homework according to the homework requirement would also help students manage time.
  • Have suitable expectations on their children. By achieving so, parents should understand their children’s learning difficulties and needs for appropriate support. It is also important to care for them, appreciate and justify their efforts. They should also support and accept children when they face setbacks. Moreover, parents should provide guidance and prompts for students to think in different perspectives in order for them to solve problems.
  • Ensure their children to have sufficient time to rest so that they can participate in different extra-curricular activities such as reading, sports and arts for their balanced growth.
  • Support and participate in comprehensive learning activities or parental activities provided by the school in order to guide students reflect and share upon their learning experiences.
  • Use different channels of communications effectively to connect with the teachers in order to grasp their children’s learning progress and attitude. Moreover, it serves as means to improve children with the use of reflections done by the teachers to understand more about their strengths and weaknesses.
  • Assist students in completing homework and pack their school bags by themselves in order to learn and practise about self-regulation and responsibilities. For instance, parents can guide children to use their homework booklet effectively and prioritize their homework. They should also provide marks on the finished homework and pack their school bag according to the time table provided in the homework booklet.
